Living in a constant positive way of thinking is not always possible and results in a mindset which is stressed, negative and angry. In this post, I will talk about a few ways that you can incorporate to change your mindset from becoming negative to positive by just including these things in your routine.
If you have had a chance to scroll through my website, you would have seen that I have a section for “positive affirmations” This is a very powerful way to begin your day with and end your day with.
How does it work?
If you start your day with thinking positive, your mind ingrains it as a seed and sprouts throughout the day. For example, I begin my day with “IT IS GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY TODAY!” and end it with “IT WAS A GREAT DAY TODAY!”
How should I do it?
You need to pick the negative thought that has taken shape in your mind; say it out aloud thus making it real; then say the opposite of that thought which is now your positive affirmation. Repeat your positive thought throughout the day. An example for this is “I am not pretty” – the opposite of that thought is “I am beautiful” and this is what you repeat to yourself everyday and every night.
LIVE WITH THE ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE:
Appreciate all that you have in life. Whatever gave you happiness that day is what you have something to be grateful for in life.
It can be as simple as listening to your favorite song, watching a movie with loved ones, sharing a laugh together, having a day with less anxiety or less negative thoughts (as seen in depression), watching a sunset or sunrise- IT CAN BE ANYTHING; IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE BIG which means even the small things generate an attitude of gratitude. The more you appreciate what you have in your life, the less you feel that something is missing.
I am a big fan of “journal” writing. But this journal is different. When you start to write a GRATITUDE JOURNAL, it is strictly for writing what positive things happened to you during the day OR anything positive that made an impact on you through the day. This journal is not to write about your day-to-day experiences like other journals. A gratitude journal is where you record things that you can reference back to when you are having negative thoughts.
What else can I write in it?
You should write your coping strategies in this journal as well. For example, if you were stressed, what did you do to de-stress and how helpful that strategy was. This allows you to go back and search for your own coping mechanisms when one strategy is not working.
LEARN TO FORGIVE:
What does Forgiveness mean?
Forgiveness is when you accept what has happened to you and rid yourself of anger, hatred, resentment, vengeance and revenge. It doesn’t mean that you have to be accepting of that person who caused you pain and hurt; it just means that you are giving yourself a way or an out to feel happy again.
When you choose to live a healthy lifestyle, you release all the negative toxins through your sweat and start to feel good about yourself.
When the mind and body are in sync, you will engage in more positive self-talk. Not only that, if you feel good in the way you look, it ends up giving a boost to your self-confidence as well.
MAKE “ME” TIME:
This is a very important way to keep you staying positive in life. YOU NEED TO MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF DOING THINGS YOU LOVE AND ENJOY.
If you are constantly caught in the ruse of “I don’t have time” then I need to remind you the following fact: THERE ARE 7 DAYS IN A WEEK OUT OF WHICH 5 ARE DEEMED AS WORKING DAYS; EACH OF THOSE DAYS HAS 24 HOURS IN THEM. Let’s say you work 10 hours/day, have dinner, watch t.v which brings you to 10 p.m in the night. This is when you can give yourself half an hour to read or do what it is you enjoy.
If you think that morning is a better time to give yourself “me” time, then wake up an hour earlier and do what needs to rejuvenate you. Let’s not forget that we have days designated as “weekends” too which means you can pull off a few hours doing things you enjoy.
MAKE A SELF-CARE VISION BOARD:
This vision board becomes very specific to your needs and what you need to do to keep yourself positive. It can include anything that motivates you, inspires you, positive quotes, things you are working on…IT CAN INCLUDE ANYTHING.
